The flute is an elegant instrument with ancient origins!

This needlepoint canvas is 1.3"x5.5" hand painted and stitch painted on 18 mesh.

Paleolithic Flutes with hand-bored holes are the earliest known identifiable musical instruments. A number of flutes dating to about 53,000 to 45,000 years ago have been found in a region of present-day Germany, indicating a developed musical tradition from the earliest period of modern human presence in Europe. Flutes were also developed by humans independently in both Asia and the Americas, thousands of years ago.

While ancient flutes were fairly simple in their construction, modern concert flutes are much more sophisticated. The modern, western concert flute is an instrument that has grown in design and stature over the last 200 years. It consists of three metallic sections, the head joint, the body and the foot joint, each of which is important in designating the functionality of the flute as a whole. The standard concert flute is pitched in C and has a range of three octaves starting from middle C. This means that the concert flute is one of the highest-pitched common orchestra and concert band instruments.
