It is not spring in North Carolina until the dogwoods bloom. The official state flower of North Carolina, the dogwood, Cornus florida is a favorite tree for many North Carolinians. The flowers of the dogwood tree are the little greenish-yellow center parts. We think of the white showy part as the flower, but it’s not. It’s actually a bract, which is a modified leaf.
